Marlene A. Guy is the Director of an Upward
Bound Program in Washington, D.C. Prior to Directing Upward Bound,
she was the National Field Services Coordinator for the College
Board’s Equity 2000 program. She was responsible for the
development and delivery of EQUITY 2000’s professional development
workshops and providing individualized or district specific
technical assistance to sites as needed to help them implement and
institutionalize the EQUITY 2000 program.
Ms. Guy has a significant history in education
and school reform. She is a former elementary school
administrator, special education administrator, and charter school
director. She successfully implemented the Balanced Curriculum in her school. Ms. Guy is the recipient of the Patrick
Daly Award for Excellence in Education (Yale University), was
featured twice on the John Merrow Report (PBS), and invited to
participate in the Carnegie Corporation Task Force on Learning in
the Primary Grades. Schools under her direction have been recognized
in several publications including: National Association of
Elementary Principals’ Urban Network:Profiles of Schools in
Progress, Principals Magazine, Congressional Quarterly, and
the Education Monitor.
As a school reform facilitator, Ms. Guy has
served as Principal in Residence at the Yale Child Study Center and
Peer Coach of Principals in Dayton, Ohio. She is a trained
instructor in Assisting Change in Education (an ASCD program),
Action Research, and the Comer School Development Model. She has
spoken to many school districts on various reform topics. Her
presentations include: Using Data to Drive School Reform; What
Do We Mean By Parental Involvement; The Process of Change; and
Curriculum Alignment. She is on National Faculty of the Yale
University Child Development Center. One of Ms. Guy’s passions is
working closely with schools as they improve their instructional
program, parental involvement, and school climate.
