The
ABC philosophy
asserts that curriculum is the key to helping students learn more and
score
higher. A Balanced Curriculum is defined by 10 to 20 time-bound units
for each
course. Units consist of two to five powerful activities (significant
tasks) that everyone teaches and assesses.
The
model’s power resides in the assumption that the teachers/curriculum
developers
can describe significant tasks that will raise student achievement. The task is also aligned to appropriate standards and tests, ensuring that all students have equal access to an aligned curriculum. All course teachers teach and assess each of the significant tasks, a promise to next year's teachers that all students have similar prerequisite skills.
